On November 6, 2018, Connecticut voters will vote on two proposed amendments to the Connecticut State Constitution. The Wilton League of Women Voters joins the League of Women Voters of Connecticut submitting Letters to the Editor to local media urging voters to vote YES on both amendments.
The League of Women Voters of Connecticut (LWVCT) hosted a debate between Representative Jim Himes (D) and Candidate Harry Arora (R) for the 4th Congressional District on Sunday, October 21st. The event, free and open to the public, was held from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., at the Clune Performing Arts Center at Wilton High School, 395 Danbury Road/Route 7 in Wilton CT. The debate was moderated by Kay Maxwell, who has served as President of both the League of Women Voters of CT and of the League of Women Voters of the United States. She recently retired as Executive Director of the World Affairs Forum.
The debate was sponsored by the Connecticut League of Women Voters, and co-sponsored by the Bridgeport LWV, the Darien LWV, the Greenwich LWV, the New Canaan LWV, the Norwalk LWV, the Redding LWV, the Ridgefield LWC, the Stamford LWV, the Weston LWV, and the Westport LWV.
It was hosted by the Wilton LWV with support from the Wilton High School Model Congress.
Voter registration services were available prior to the event.
Join us for our next Steering Committee meeting Thursday, October 11 at 9:15 am at the Comstock Community Center, Room 31. Beginning at 10 am, Beverly Brokaw will provide WLWV with a preview of the proposed Wilton Blue Zone Program.
For those unfamiliar with the concept of Blue Zones, here is a brief explanation from the Wilton Blue Zones website: “A Blue Zone Community leverages the common principles discovered in Dan Buettner's reporting on the Blue Zones around the world - rare longevity hotspots. These areas include the Italian island of Sardinia, Okinawa, Japan, Loma Linda, California, Costa Rica's isolated Nicoya Peninsula, and Ikaria, an isolated Greek island. . . Initiatives focus on improving life in the place where you spend 90% of your time. They measure progress in terms of the quality of life enjoyed by our employers, schools, restaurants, grocery stores, faith organizations, and even in our homes. As an added bonus, Blue Zone Communities find that they attract both new employers and new residents who want to live in a community actively taking steps to ensure their health and happiness.”

The Wilton League of Women Voters, along with co-sponsors Wilton Library, Norwalk League of Women Voters, GOOD Morning Wilton, and student partners from WHS Model Congress, invite the public to their CT State Legislative Candidate Forum. Candidates for Senate District 26- Toni Boucher(R) and Will Haskell(D), House District 125- Tom O’Dea(R) and Ross Tartell(D), and House District 143- Gail Lavielle(R) and Stephanie Thomas(D) are slated to attend. They will engage in a modified town hall style format. The event is free and open to the public.
Jean Rabinow, a member of the Steering Committee of the League of Women Voters of the Bridgeport Area, and Director/Outreach for the League of Women Voters of Connecticut, will moderate the evening's event. The event is free and open to the public. Doors to Middlebrook Auditorium open at 6:30pm. With the change to a larger venue we are no longer taking preregistrations. However, if you did preregister you may take a seat in the reserved zone until 6:45 pm, after which time that area will be open to all. Waitlists requests are no longer valid. The forum will begin promptly at 7pm and entry to the auditorium will be limited after that time.
The forum will allow for written questions from the audience. In addition, the WLWV is soliciting questions ahead of the forum via email at wiltonlwvcandidateforum@

All questions should be applicable to all candidates and pertinent to state issues. Questions targeted at one specific candidate–for example, 'Candidate Jane Doe, why did you vote for/against xyz?”–will not be accepted.
