Session 1 - October 14: It’s YOUR Vote They’re Talking About!
The kick-off session featured David Daley, author of the national best-seller "Ratf**ked: Why Your Vote Doesn't Count" and "Unrigged: How Americans Are Battling Back to Save Democracy and Joan Twiggs, Greater Hartford League of Women Voters Advocacy Director, LWV CT Director at Large, and Champion for the LWV's People Powered Fair MapsTM campaign. Fairfield LWV partnered with Fairfield Museum and History Center on this series “kickoff” free event.
Session 2 - November 18: Redistricting: How is it Done? And Why Is That Important?
Presented in collaboration with Fairfield University, this presentation will include three mapping scenarios, how they were created, and their impact on voting. Drs. Gayle A.Alberda, Assistant Professor, Politics; Mehmet Cansoy, Assistant Professor, Sociology & Anthropology; Kurt Schlichting, Professor, Sociology & Anthropology, and Jonathan Delgado, Center for Social Impact, will be your guides. Join us at Fairfield University’s Dolan School Event Hall at 7 p.m.
Session 3 - December 7: Redistricting in the News
This event includes panelists Mark Pazniokas, Capitol Bureau Chief and a founder of CT Mirror; Jordan Fenster, award-winning reporter with a focus on investigative journalism; Cheri Quickmire, Executive Director, Common Cause in Connecticut; and Dr. Kyle Evans, Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Trinity College, Hartford, CT. The program will center on developments to date, perspectives and maps, what becomes news, transparency, and public participation. Session 4: Where We are Now
This discussion will include a panel of “process players” such as commission members, Connecticut party leaders on redistricting, and other participants who will discuss the 2021 redistricting process and outcomes. Date and place will be announced.
Session 5: What Does the Future Hold and What Should We Be Doing Now and until 2030?
The speakers and panelists in the Spotlight On: series and other invitees will come together in the fifth and final session to share observations and recommendations. Date and place will be announced.
